Hi friend,
It may have been a minute since you’ve heard from me as, with most of our nation, I’ve taken a pause the past few weeks to listen, learn, and provide space to amplify black voices in the wake of the murder of George Floyd.
I’ve hesitated for too long across the platforms I have outside of talking with family and friends in the confines of our own homes to stand up and say something and for that, I apologize. I’ve been afraid of saying something wrong or incorrectly or even worse, triggering to someone else, but I think the past few of weeks have proven one thing - that silence is compliance.
I simply want to say I stand with my black friends and peers and unequivocally believe in the movement that is Black Lives Matter.
There are so many fantastic complications of resources available on where to donate, petitions to sign, books to read, seminars and live videos to watch and educate yourself with - if you feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to start, please feel encouraged to reach out.
I ask you, as a friend, colleague, peer - in short, a human being - to take that same pause should you have not already and do this reawakening the justice it deserves.
With a lingering pandemic and the onslaught of the unavoidable unrest most of us are experiencing, life can feel very uncomfortable and unfamiliar right now. But if that is not the strongest impetus for much-needed change, what is?
With love,
Michelle
