Some friends of mine were recently hiking up in Will Rogers (so many great trails up there if you’re looking for a moment out in nature!) when they happened across a game of pick-up polo. Like the real kind - with horses. It’s often a forgotten fact that there's a polo field hidden up there as the days of putting on the yearly Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in October seem sadly behind us. 

My friends immediately shared their discovery with me as I have a rare and somewhat random affinity for polo. As my birthday approaches next weekend, I’d normally be packing up for our August tradition of heading up to Montecito for brunch and a game one Sunday.

But, this 2020 after all, and if it’s not about making lemons into lemonade, I’m not sure what it is. So, without any fear of judgment (doesn’t anything go these days?) my family and I will pack up, dress up, and pretend its the same as we picnic in the grass at a pick-up game this weekend pretending Santa Monica is a little more Santa Barbara and make the most of it!

Day Dreaming:  If you’re anything like me and have the near-constant itch to get out of town (safe and socially distant road trips only please!), use this list to brainstorm destination ideas within 5 hours of LA.
Looking Ahead: It’s been a tumultuous year that’s spared no one - home-sharing giant Airbnb included. Its IPO seems back on track with potential for shares to be trading by end of 2020. Time will tell as it always does!
